Perhaps a nice formal mutual defense treaty between China and NK (with the tacit approval of the US) effectively placing NK under the military umbrella of China. US hawks would hate it. In exchange NK stands down, opens up a little, but the oligarchy is allowed to continue. Works for everybody. Slowly the ca. DMZ is demilitarize ala Hong Kong for several decades. Basically China gets NK, the path likely be towards pseudo-annexation (just don't say so). Again, US hawks would hate it, but really, we work with China just fine on a number of matters. China is China, Koreans are Korean, 'Mercans are 'Mercans. There is not one brand. Let 'em do their commie thing in peace. But normalize a bit. I imagine Japan would be rather cold to the Dig Space solution, but I think it would work for all concerned.
