that means it would make no difference from a tax viewpoint if you are married or unmarried.

then i suppose the government would be responsible for any law surrounding civil unions. and what we call marriage would be an institution arranged by religions and secular groups for the recognition of people that love one another and want to express it in some formal fashion.

the point being - if we discriminate in favour of marriage because of an arrangement (parenting) that it no longer exclusively promotes, then perhaps the "egalitarian" solution is not to confer such rights on homosexual couples, but to remove them from spouses.

why should unmarried couples and single people be discriminated against in favour of married people (hetero and homosexual alike)?
