hi clo,

but equality is the wrong reason for it.

if marriage itself is a form of discrimination against unmarried people, why do any kind of married people accrue an advantage?

some sorts of discrimination are normally considered to be justifiable. the reason for this is that society thinks the privileged population provides a public good; so it is reasonable to encourage them.

eg veterans or parents.

what does marriage do?

Justice Kennedy stated in California alone, there are nearly 40,000 children living with same sex parents.

If you are a citizen you should be afforded all rights equally.

My mother, 84, totally disagrees.
I discuss all issues with her & told her how the tide has turned & the majority of folks under 40/45 are for it.
That's okay, these died in the wool elders won't be around forever. ;))
