Sorry for the controversy!

However! The New York City of 2013 under Mayor Bloomberg is an entirely different place than it was around 1980 when there were around 2000 gun deaths per year before Rudy Gulliani began to bring the crime rate down. My comment about trusting the city too much comes from comments made in some of the press at the time of John Lennon's death!

Lennon got out of his vehicle far too far down the entryway to the Dakota apartments than he could have and decided to walk the rest of the way up to the entrance to the building, allowing Chapman to get off his shots, most of which we understand struck Lennon in the back.

As far as all cities of any size go, however, one must exercise caution after dark, particularly when you are a celebrity!

By the way, if you thought this piece of interesting, you aint gonna believe the one coming in just a little while!

Regards,

Joe

Hi CF,
I am, perhaps (read: definitely), a little sensitive on this subject as I am a born, bred and current NYC'er.

The statement reads to me clearly that he died because he trusted the big bad city (and I infer its people, for what is a city but the collective result of its people.) If a general statement about trusting an environment was intended then a specific environment shouldn't be used. John Lennon and NYC had a love affair that continues to this day. A religious wingnut, who was probably mentally ill even though he didn't end up pleading that way, from parts elsewhere was soley responsible. I am generally religious intolerant so when I read an outwardly religious individual blaming my city/people for killing one of the greatest artists of our time when in fact he should have been blaming his own people it reaks of hypocrisy.

Now, that being said, JT seems like a fine individual and i do indeed reading the majority of his missal's. He contributes a lot, a whole lot more than me who just sits like a sniper in a clock tower and takes a shot every now and again. There is a saying in construction and its true in life, "The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything." So JT puts a lot out there and therefore should be granted the luxury of making some mistakes.

Now I feel better...thanks for letting me type it out...

cheers,
bb

PS...I'm with you on gun laws
