Hi CF,
I am, perhaps (read: definitely), a little sensitive on this subject as I am a born, bred and current NYC'er.

The statement reads to me clearly that he died because he trusted the big bad city (and I infer its people, for what is a city but the collective result of its people.) If a general statement about trusting an environment was intended then a specific environment shouldn't be used. John Lennon and NYC had a love affair that continues to this day. A religious wingnut, who was probably mentally ill even though he didn't end up pleading that way, from parts elsewhere was soley responsible. I am generally religious intolerant so when I read an outwardly religious individual blaming my city/people for killing one of the greatest artists of our time when in fact he should have been blaming his own people it reaks of hypocrisy.

Now, that being said, JT seems like a fine individual and i do indeed reading the majority of his missal's. He contributes a lot, a whole lot more than me who just sits like a sniper in a clock tower and takes a shot every now and again. There is a saying in construction and its true in life, "The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything." So JT puts a lot out there and therefore should be granted the luxury of making some mistakes.

Now I feel better...thanks for letting me type it out...

cheers,
bb

PS...I'm with you on gun laws

hi bb,

i don't think jt is on a high horse. he writes and shares his missals with us. amongst other things, he offers his content to us free of charge and i am grateful for that.

i didn't get the sense that jt blamed ny. a person can make the mistake of trusting an environment, of thinking a harbour is safe, when in fact it is not. we both have experience of that.

as you correctly point out, it isn't ny's fault. one might blame the event on many things. eg us gun laws. but one thing to blame was the chappie who did the deed.

if only john lennon had a gun. because the only way to stop a bad man with a gun is ...

oh wait a sec. ;-)
