more modest than what alea proposes would be simply ration appropriation by contribution ... the effect would largely be to migrate money from red states to blue states when one observes the monetary ROI of taxing and subsequent spending:

The current state of affairs is one of blue states taxing themselves and giving their money to red states. Redistributing government outlays towards revenue sources would be an eye-opener in, say, Mississippi.

Hi alea,
I rarely disagree with you or can find holes in your logic but I am perplexed by this one. People who want a smaller govt want it because they don't believe they get value for their money (taxes.) they feel they pay in but get back services that are not valuable to them. it's not so much govt services as a rule that people don't want it's paying for them. So im not following why you are suggesting people give up some govt services but continue to pay full taxes.
