hi jt,
well, i may be a right/left winger then. because the way i see things, zimmerman looks innocent under current law and this makes me think the law sucks!
buying skittles ought to be a safe thing to do.
it is unsafe not because of zimmerman but because the whole damn structure is screwed up.
one reason it is screwed up is because violence is celebrated in us society (see games, hollywood etc).
one reason it is screwed up is possibly to do with the things they have added to the food chain and into the air, or whatever other factor is causing the rise of mental aberrations such as autism and bipolar disorder (see newtown etc).
one reason it is screwed up is the second amendment and its interpretation which means that guns are prevalent in situations they should not be (see zimmerman).
one reason it is screwed up is because jobs are poorly protected, the safety net is threadbare and folks who are humiliated and who have no recourse do strange things (going postal phenomenon)
one reason it is screwed up is that children are sent to the sausage factory aged five and by the time they are eighteen, they are zombies who have had little time to develop as social human beings.
one reason it is screwed up is because the question of race remains an issue and for myself, i think it is because it is being handled wrongly - media bandwagons are part of the problem and not the solution.
one reason it is screwed up is because money creates perverse incentives. the arms manufacturers and the cigarette makers and all of these folks do their work because they want to make a profit and they pass their negative externalities along to their victims (scratch that) society. the politicians spend much of their day spoiling democracy for a ha'porth of campaign finance tar.
first we acknowledge the extent of us society's sickness. only then can we find the cure. the zimmerman case is a symptom of the much larger problem.
