so actuaries figure the risk of an event happening - whether it be the risk of an airline crash or of a parachute failing.

getting hit by a meteorite was the proverbial longshot. the only known case of a creature of any kind getting bopped by a meteorite was an egyptian dog. or something like that.

but now they are going to have to think about that thar sonic boom. the meteorite doesn't get you. it's the sound it makes on impact. 1,000 people injured. astonishing.

okay. and every once in a while, a big meteorite whacks us. and then the actuaries and their tables are done.
