frickin' spider huggin' thing pretty much torched any notion of center right for D&O. I can see it now, D&O gently ushers spiders onto his otherwise worthless shares of WAVX to ferry them outside (a WAVX ahare value redemption of sorts).

I've never hunted. I like to fish, but only fish that I like to eat, and I eat them. I do like shooting guns, but haven't shot one for years.

I do believe that the big grazers need to be managed, and that firearms may represent the most efficient means to do so, and as such were I somehow assigned the task I would do it, but I would have to learn how to butcher and that strikes me as a fair bit of messy work.

I know folks that are into bow-hunting ... strikes me as rather grisley, bumper-stickers like "lung buster" strike me as a bit ogerish, but I'm fine to leave well enough alone on that matter.

I think some of the killing animals thing is some sort of act-it-out fantasy that if one had too, on e could "live off the land". I think it is a sort of fitness/survival bona-fides thingy. I am all read up on how to tan hides, salt cure game, vernalize and store seeds and make clothes out of bark ... and I have no intention of ever doing any of it. So it seems for me academic exposure is adequate to address and sort of hunger for fitness bona fides with lesser technology, and it appears for others that notion is filled with high powered semi-automatic rifles, mega-scopes, computer generated decoy sounds and helicopters.

Or maybe they just like killing stuff.

Hi D&O,

I missed the duck thing. Apologies.

Re the Republican Party. I don't think I commented on your voting record. Just your principles, which tend to start with a traditional right of centre lean. Not the absolutist position of the far right which controls the Republican Party.

I think a right of centre lean is often reasonable. I am not sure why you prize being seen to be the centre. But I think the centre-right is also sometimes wrong. It was wrong about the effect of qe on inflation in the recent crisis, for instance.

As a general rule, I think you are a status quo conservative with a preference for gradualism.

Am I wrong about that?

Re guns - the status quo is a disaster. A Burkeian conservative gradualist approach does not do enough to solve the problem.
