Dig,

There is also a difference between religion and faith! There are many very faithful people out there who espouse no particular religion. And spirituality comes into play there as well! In the United States today, only eighteen percent of all American go to church but a much higher percentage profess a belief in God. However, the percentage who believe in nothing is also on the rise, particularly among the young.

As far as the NRA and their argument about guns not killing people, we've heard that old canard for years! Gas chambers don't kill people either, but people like Hitler sure used them to make it much easier to do so! It's not so much in the ability to kill as it is in the numbers that we kill! The NRA wants use to get lost in the numbers argument while we forget the basic humanity involved at the base of all of it! While we sat in church this morning the question suddenly arose in our head: Would we be willing to trade every assault rifle in America today if it would bring back the lives of those twenty children and six adults lost in Newtown, Connecticut?

To say that "God exists" is the greatest understatement ever made across space and time.

we've all heard arguments by atheists about how many people religion has killed ... and arguments by anti-gun folks how many people guns have killed.

The NRA says guns don't kill ... people do.

Some argue that guns make it particularly easy for bad people to kill many.

This guy argues religion doesn't kill (about half way down) ....

http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2013/01/2013122111010987332.html

... just that bad people have leveraged religion to kill.

Similar arguments: guns and religion make it easier for bad people to kill many.

Just musing on the rhetorical parallels.
