For the record, McDonough, another Roman Catholic ;))

President Barack Obama will appoint Denis McDonough as his new chief of staff on Friday, a White House official tells POLITICO.

Obama will make the long-expected announcement at 12:10 p.m. in the East Room.

The president will also announce several other promotions, including moving communications director Dan Pfeiffer to the job of senior adviser, and shifting deputy communications director Jennifer Palmieri into Pfeiffer's old job.
