Bap,
you can use either a switch or a router. I would use a 4 port wireless router, which also has plug in ports in the rear if you want to use cable connections to your computers.

The reason for the router is because of the added protection you get versus a switch which is basically just a sharing device for the network.

Not a power failure ... at least not directly. I have a dead router. Forgot to surge protect it. So I can only run one computer at a time. That is, unless I can find that switch (might be the wrong term). Micro. Didn't you tell me about a switch once? I bot it but have to find it.
