Micro,

So the SATA connection on the hard drive that's marked "6 GB/s" would be for a SATA 3? Do I understand that correct?

Sun :-)

Sun,
Hard drives are RATED for various SATA SPEEDS.

To optimize that speed for the hard drive and your operating system which is searching for the data on thathard drive, you should match up a SATA 3 motherboard connector with a SATA 3 hard drive for optimal speed. It will still work if you don;t, because it is backward compatible.

SO, yes, the motherboard SATA connectors on YOUR motherboard ARE (4) sata 2.0 and (2) SATA 3.0.

I didn;t look close but I would match up that SATA hard drive with the highest rated SATA configuration, whether it is 2.0 or 3.0

Hope this clearly explains it for you!

The best,

micro...
