Stephen Colbert, of the Colbert Report

Stephen Colbert is a comedian same as Al Franken. Neither should be taken seriously.

The common denominator in all of this is not mental illness, or violent movies, or violent video games, it is GUNS!

...over two hundred million guns in the hands of law abiding citizens did not kill anyone yesterday.

However, not every naton has the number of gun deaths that are prevalent in the United States.

...tell me again what the problem is. I think I missed your point.

Ribit,

We normally don't respond to you. However, you have brought up a point that we do wish to address! Stephen Colbert, of the Colbert Report, brought up an interesting point recently! He stated that those supporting the continued possession of things like assault weapons constantly point to the fact that our youth are using violent video games, are going to violent movies and that we have mentally ill people in our midst. Colbert simply pointed out that we are the only nation in the world with these three problems. Of course he was using satire to point out that every nation has these problems. However, not every naton has the number of gun deaths that are prevalent in the United States. In fact, most all other nations except those such as Mexico engaged in a drug war, have no where near the amount of gun deaths that the United States has! The only difference between the United States and these other nations is the fact that the United States allows the almost unfettered possession of very harmfull guns such as assault rifles.

To summerize this for you. Most every developed nation has violent video games, violent access to movies through the internet or otherwise, and citizens with mental health problems. They part from the United States in two ways: (1) they don't allow unrestricted gun ownership; and, (2) they do not have anywhere near the number of gun deaths that we have. The common denominator in all of this is not mental illness, or violent movies, or violent video games, it is GUNS!

Regards,

Joe
