Hi NewSunR. Haven't looked in for awhile. Good you got a powerful card there. My experience is all those cords have to be firmly attached. It took me a while before I ensured they were. You are mentioning several things. Just while you are waiting non-novice advise, issues:

1. What is your new power supply? Check the power requirements for that video.
2. I wonder why your boot takes so long before your current situation? I wonder why you are running so slowly wo folding? Anything else running besides folding? Check the task manager with ctl-alt-del.
3.

Sun is back to being an entry level private :-(

I purchased a new video card to upgrade Hollywood - GeForce GTX 660. Planned to surprise everyone :-(

It requires both a 6-pin as well as an 8-pin connectors for power. My power supply did not have an 8-pin, but the card came with adapters to be able to go from a molex 4-pin to the 8-pin - and/or the 6-pin to molex. I had the s-pin, so only needed the adapter for the 8-pin.

Once I had it installed, Hollywood would start up and run, bu was running very slow - I paused folding to take that load off - I ran the installation disk. Hollywood was still running - very very slow, but running through all this. Once folding kicked in, she would shut down after a few minutes.

I started checking connector and found that one of the pins on the molex adapter had come out and that pair of wires was just hanging. I put them back in and they seemed to be in tight. Started Hollywood back up and she ran - slow, but ran. Sometimes slower than others. Did numerous starts and stops through all this.

Got her up and running and folding Sunday night after spending all afternoon and evening on her. Monday, came home and found that I at least suspected that she had done a re-start, but she was running. She at least completed 1 unit on the GPU - it was a biggie rather than the little fast ones that she had been getting.

I downloaded MSI Afterburn and the video card was running quite a bit cooler than the old one. MSI has a stress test program, so I ran that - caused an immediate shut down of the whole computer.

After that, Hollywood would run as long as she wasn't folding, but as soon as I unpaused folding, a couple of minutes later she would restart, then as soon as she booted up enough for the folding to kick in, she would re-start again, cycle after cycle - sometimes taking 5 minutes to boot up, sometimes taking as much as 20 minutes to boot up.

I shut her down for the night and tried her again Tuesday evening - lights would come on and sounding like she tried to start up for a couple of seconds, then would shut right back down. That's when I ordered a new power supply.

Power supply is installed, Hollywood won't even try to start. Green light on the motherboard comes on when the power supply is turned on, but hitting the start button does absolutely nothing. I removed the new video card thinking that might have something to do with it, but still no joy - she doesn't even try to start.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! I'm going to go back and try the old power supply without the new video card and see if she will start up that way - if she does, I'm thinking the new power supply is defective?

Any other ideas out there?

One very frustrated buck private,

Sun :-)
