President Barack Obama has chosen John Brennan, the White House homeland-security and counterterrorism adviser, as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, a senior administration official told POLITICO. The nomination of Brennan, who formerly served at the CIA, will be announced at the White House this afternoon, along with former senator Chuck Hagel for Defense secretary. The official said: "John has led an extraordinarily effective anti-terrorism and homeland security effort for the President for the last four years, and [the president] has enormous trust in him."
