I've never advocated that guns should be illegal. After all, I myself have been and continue to be a lifelong gun owner. My comment was directed at how the NRA is going to rationalize that this was not a gun ownership issue nor that it is was related to the so-called 'gun culture' which they promote in this country. But from your response it appears that that you've already gotten the NRA talking-points (are you on some sort of instant-message list?).

While I don't speak for the NRA, I am sure that they would agree that criminals should be punished to the full extent of the law. This guy is/was a criminal. Whether he was a criminal before these events remains to be seen. In any event, the system failed.

As for my post being in poor taste, I respectfully disagree. We are already hearing folks screaming that guns should be illegal because of this event. If they are allowed to make a statement, then so am I.
