there it is again, clo.

if they pursue the middle class electorate, they will lose their funding.

if they pursue the funding, they have to adopt policies that lose the middle class electorate.

for myself, i think they have to find new leaders. not folks who are intransigent, or who just want to put lipstick on their current policies. folks with different ideas. practical ones.

in their shoes here's what i would do.

respect the will of the people. let obama increase taxes on the wealthy and stimulate the economy. but do so arguing you have reservations. that you think this will lead to government expansion and waste. that you are concerned by deficit growth and you plan to balance budgets and adopt good housekeeping style economics. then adopt an efficiency doctrine, rather than the absolutist small government dogma. work on the tax code. establish a pragmatic reputation.

this allows republicans to have something sensible to say in four years. a responsible seeming party. a party that the right-leaning rich will still support because they have no place else to go. instead of trying to protect a random line drawn by grover norquist. and really, it preserves a lot of who they wish to be, without sounding loopy and intense and dogmatic.

unfortunately, i don't think the current gop organism is capable of this.

Here's part of the Boehner's/Republican politicians problem, MONEY.
So, Bozell is willing to hold the Country hostage, with no regard for the whole...
If they allow the country to go off the cliff, Americans will hold them accountable, & they will pay at the next election.
If they make a deal, Big Money will do what they can to kick them out.
Now, Boehner & Co. will have to decide, either way they are screwed. But if they make a deal, at least they should be able to look themselves in a mirror.

MRC president threatens Reince Priebus over tax increases
POSTED NOVEMBER 30, 2012 AT 9:08 AM BY EDDIE SCARRY

Admittedly, a little late to this, but…
Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, wrote a letter this week to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus threatening to steer conservatives away from donating to GOP causes if congressional Republicans cave on tax increases.

Details on the letter from The Hill:
“Reince, it pains me to say this, but if the Republican Party breaks its word to the American people and goes along with President Obama with tax increases, it will have betrayed conservatives for the final time,” Bozell wrote.

“I will make it my mission to ensure that every conservative donor to the Republican Party that I have worked with for the last three decades — and there are many and they have given tens of millions to Republican causes — gives not one penny more to the Republican Party or any member of Congress that votes for tax increases,” he warned.
