I archive the images on multiple DVD's (one copy in my safe at home and the second at my office) and locally on an external hard drive. My database is my own, developed using Apple's FileMaker Pro. I capture thumbnails and relevant data such as 'film' type, camera, date, description and list of 'keywords' which I can search on (as well as any of the other fields) using the FileMaker search tools.

While it's true that there are better tools out there now, you have to remember that this system was technically started while I was in college 40+ years ago, albeit on 3 x 5 cards and loose leaf binders for negatives/slides, and was subsequently moved to the current digital system back in 2001 when there simply wasn't anything except what you managed to put together yourself.

OCU - Do you have Picasa aboard your desktop Mac?

It doesn't copy or move anything, just indexes the pics on your machine, then it goes out and finds faces, like iPhoto, but better since it's an overall peek... It will make up collages of selected faces, handy for birthdays and such... better, it's a freebie...
