Well, we made it back without any problems. Traffic up to LA and back was about as light as I've ever seen it. The weather was great as was the food. There were 11 for dinner. We had TWO turkeys, one smoked and the other deep fried, and they were both delicious. Also mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, tamales, fried Brussel Sprouts and two pies, a pumpkin and an apple. And while we were waiting for the smoked turkey to get to the point where we could start the deep fried turkey (it takes only about 45 minutes in 360º oil) we did some beer-batter dipped onion rings for snacking while the turkeys finished. Of course this was all done outside in the back yard (that's what great about living in SoCal as these sorts of holidays are so pleasant when the weathers good, as it was today).
Anyway, it was a great Thanksgiving Day dinner and the best part was coming home to a clean house ;-)
This year we're taking advantage of the fact that we have chefs in the family. We're heading for #2 son's house up in LA later today where he and his wife (also a chef) are making dinner. In addition to us, we'll have 'grandma' (my mother-in-law), and my wife's sister who's visiting from Michigan as well as #3 son and perhaps one additional friend-of-the-family (we have to be careful as they live in a small house). Anyway, it will be nice that my wife will not have to work all day and that we will be coming home to a clean house ;-)
