We are just now getting a local Target after several years of battling local NIMBYs.... Closest one now is 7 miles up the highway, as is Costco, Hardware, lumber, Lowes... No lumberyard in town, so hit the road...

But, Target, the center's foundations are poured, be open next year, they have the streets torn up while new water mains are run it, so the main cross town artery is badly overloaded...

This is followed by a local hardware store chain, Freidman's, that started here, but left after a fire downtown 30 years ago.. So most of us are pushing, pulling to get Target, Freidman's in town, save a lot of gas...

Also pushing for additional cross town over/underpasses... Id like to volunteer for our Planning Dept, or work PT... Anyway, I poke and prod local politicos when possible.. Part of the Gray Panthers! Smile

We go into Wal-Mart very little because we like to shop local stores. When we do shop the big box stores, we usually go to Target because it has the cat litter that Lucy prefers, and, Target gives back a small percentage of its profits to local community charities. It is interesting to note that Target has gone into the grocery business down here in Marion. Just about every week the local food pantry where we hang out gets ready to expire foods such as bananas from the target store which the food pantry passes on to its patrons.

In addition to that, the local Krogers store here sends all of its expire dated breads and pastries over which greatly help to supplement the food stamps and boxes of food that the less fortunate get here, as well as a hot meal at noon five days a week! Marion is a very giving community and always has been!

Regards,

Joe
