American Politics ( A Brit's perspective)

I often read that the Democrats are Liberals, on the left and even Socialists.

I wonder where American Politics would sit in Europe.

Well the Democrats would be a right of centre party. They certainly wouldn't be Socialists.

Socialists would want to bring many companies under the control of the state. Like public transport.
Socialists would make health care completely free.
Socialists would make education completely free.
Socialists would increase income tax for earners over $250,000 to 50% or more.
Socialists would increase purchase tax to 15% or more.
Socialists would create a whole raft of new taxes like paying tax when you fly, paying tax when you get insurance and many many others.
You would also find that gas costs $9 a gallon with the extra tax.

So if the Democrats would be a right of centre party in Europe where does that put the Republicans with their religious fervour, support for corporations (but not workers) and their whole "I'm all right Jack" attitude?

I do find the religious fervour bit quite amusing. Like a typical christian they use the bible like a fist but pick over the bits they want like homosexuality and abortion but ignore the bits about caring and sharing. There's an awful lot of christians who just aint going to pass through the eye of a needle with their bulging pockets.

So where do the Republicans fit? Extreme right? Well extreme right in europe is where the hate filled neo-nazis sit.
