I was freaking out in Sept when the whole "oversampling" issue came up, I thought OMG, are they skewing the numbers to generate a 7% dem event? That would make it all garbage to me. Once it was clear that no such manipulation was in place, and that essentially it was just Red polls that were using affiliation as if it were gender, did I relax.

moreover, an extremely enthusiastic vote and a modestly enthusiastic vote both score as one vote. And the price of enthusiasm you mentioned was shown in the polls ... in the self-identification affiliation numbers. They refused to allow themselves to measure the price even though it was being measured for them.
