an interesting thought. Send a telegram that you've got a toy and you are going to demonstrate it, and the completely flatten a military base. Tell them you have more and it is time to surrender. If no, then flatten another base. Of course they had no more after that ... but it may as well have worked.

The Pacific war (less reported in Europe) was brutal. If one is the CiC and represents a country, they necessarily bias their life valuations extremely to the home team. Island hopping was proving to be a very bloody affair.

But the notion of using/not using is normally the debate, I never simply considered changing targets to perhaps equal political effect.

for myself, i wish they'd found a way to demonstrate it without landing it on top of a city full of women and children.

innocence is important. if such a bomb had been dropped by the war's losers, methinks it would have been treated as a war crime.

in general, i am a humanist. american lives aren't the only ones that are valuable.

on the other hand, i will also admit that if i was faced with a choice along those lines that affected my family, i'd be willing to do anything including flying the dang plane over hiroshima.

so i don't have it in me to rise above the fray. that is easier to do after the event.

the amygdala rules all.
