JT, agreed, but lacking the information, I don't know how much time one might be talking about etc etc.

Certainty some of the AC's recommendations seem trite in the face of a nuke (and Chamberlain was e.g. wrong) but it is definitely not a rag-tag group. The two points in there were essentially the ones I support, engage, and silence the war-drums. I am unaware of examples in any circumstance where disengagement and war-drums proved to be particularly effective. Engagement doesn't mean conceding a thing (e.g sanctions etc).

It all depends on what one really knows about what they have and what they are doing with it. I am skeptical that they will actually develop and malevolently deliver a nuke to Israel, and believe I smoother path towards making sure of that is engagement and losing the war-drums.

Dig,

The things that the Atlantic coucil recommends range from the sublime to the ridiculous. Raising awareness for human rights abuses is ridiculous. The Iranians are already possibly the greatest current sponsor of state terrorism in the world so they could care less what the world thinks of their human rights violations. Perhaps the greatest and most ridiculous item on your list is to convince Israel to act against their own best interests. And we have this question for you: What does the international community and the United States do the morning after we learn that Iran has just exploded a few nuclear devices inside of Israeli territory, possibly killing millions?

These are not games and though, given enough time, some of the Council's suggestions might bear some fruit, we simply do not have the time. Once the Iranians get that bomb it is a whole new ball game! What the Coucil says that we might destroy the chances for reform inside of Iran for another generation must be balanced against the chances of destroying Israel for all the coming generations.

IOVHO,

Regards,

Joe
