What I don't understand about the Republican party is the insistence on kowtowing to the hard right. What's going to happen if they get centrist? Do they really believe the hard right is going to abandon the party and what, vote for a democrat? It's insane.

rumours begin to emerge of civil war behind the scenes at the republican party in the wake of the election.

regardless of results for folks like akin, mourdock, walsh and west, tea partiers are demanding a move further to the populist right. everyone else is waking up to a strong cup of coffee and indications that the most votes are in the middle.

maybe they have to split as these two ideas are not reconcilable. but neither side can win alone so splitting means years of pain.
