Bill Clinton: Choice Is Between a Talker and a Doer

WATERLOO, Iowa -- Bill Clinton had just concluded his 40-minute stump speech here Wednesday evening and had begun to shake hands with members of the crowd when he suddenly returned to the podium. The former president then waited for the house music to dim and his microphone to be turned back on.
Helming his last event as a stand-in for President Obama -- who is scheduled return to the campaign trail Thursday -- Clinton had remembered one last point he wanted to make about this city that shares its name with the site of Napoleon’s final defeat in 1815.
“Well, I always see it as the site of the good guys winning,” Clinton said. “The guy who won Waterloo, the Duke of Wellington, said it was a ‘near-run thing.’ It is often a near-run thing. So far, when it mattered, the good guys have won. Make sure it happens again!”
