Burke is the one to read if you are leaning towards conservatism.

Burke is why I talk about the rate of change. This is the key to considering whether a country is functioning as well as it might.

I think he identified the right problem. But working out how to permit change (so as to accommodate a changing landscape) while preserving what is good about existing structures is a hard problem. You can go too fast. You can go too slow.

I think the proper role of parties is to argue about progress. One side must be the slow coach. The other the speedster.

Hi alea,

I'll try not to swear in the future.

Burke is on my reading list. I recently finished Common Sense & The Age of Reason.

Then I got distracted what I thought originally was a outrageous comment about Lincoln, only to find upon investigation my perception of Lincoln was entirely wrong. So given limited time too many great minds to investigate I am flummuxed on my next pursuit.

Paine was a great read but apparently he and Burke were at odds.

Maybe I am a some sort of odd libertarian -conservative conglomeration.
