FEMA is funded to the gills, they have some 10 billion immediately available. The resources, this time, are not at issue. At issue (as always and sensibly) is the matter of deployment, specifically effective deployment of resources. I do not doubt that resources will be deployed, only time will tell whether the spin cycle determines such deployment to be effective.
It is October. One could resonably say that a storm a bit bigger than Europe hitting the Eastern Seaboard constitutes surprise. Less VA, we are not talking swing state country, but news cycles are news cycles.
A cynical person may suppose the Gov Christie anticipates a Romney loss and is carving out all moderate ground the world has to offer. A less cynical person might argue the Gov is doing his job.
Lost is the pure fact that the deliberate maiming of FEMA under Bush contributed to the mumbled responses to Katrina. Lets face it. The guy mumbled a lot. Mumbled into pre-911 awareness. Mumbled into Iraq. Generally, he mumbled. What can one say, for 8 years we enjoyed a mumbler in chief,
Obama makes errors. And took a nap, notable in Denver. But generally he does not mumble. Nor does Christie. Nor does Cuomo. I am inclined to think if I made arrangements with Cuomo, Christie, or Obama to walk my kids home from school ... it would happen. I simply would not make such arrangements with Bush (no parent would). So, what about Romney? Would I make arrangements with Romney to walk my kids home from school ... with Christie, Cuomo, or Obama I would do it by word, with Romney ... I would require a signed document.
This event, Sandy, clarifies that for me, it may well for others. I was going to vote one way no matter what, but on one side I got a guy that will do it, on another, I got a guy that might, depending on the contract. I do not want the other guy as my president.
I did not say fuck once in that post.
