Agreed, doing essentially nothing, but the reality is ... if you don't rush back ,,, then there is all them thars saying "what were you doing?" the them thars perhaps include you, I can't tell.

I would be the first to agree that front line civil service employees, the rank and file so hated, are the ones that get the job done. But, Bush got crucified for doing a fly-by of Katrina(and he did materially seek to weaken and defund their capacity, but immaterial to a real-time response) and regardless of what the state of that infrastructure is (disaster response infrastructure) the final reality is FOX, or anybody else will judge you based on physical presence alone.
It is a sad state of affairs that we have so systematically degraded members of the civil service in the US, that the President can't simply say : we have a civil service, at this time it is their job, at this time it is best left to those professionals. .... but we can't ... Fox etc has systematically sold a bill of good that civil servants are among the most incapable people alive ... planes hit buildings in NY, fires run amok in the west, these civil servants, the consistent target of Fox and Romney .... they (Fox and Romney) argue these things can only possibly function with "strong leadership" ...
and so you lament .... why must the Pres return???
