Hello again Jim!
I just received word that the German government will enact legislation to force banks to not only register the names of the owners of safety deposit boxes with a "special" government department, but to divulge what is in each box. In addition, all transactions along with the dates of said transactions must be dutifully recorded by the banks after said legislation is passed.
Of course, spokesmen for the German government are emphasizing that this will all be done to protect German citizens from "terror" and to discourage money laundering (the usual excuses to take away our liberties!).
The worst "terror" in my mind is a government that pretends to be democratic but is, in fact, a dictatorship of the worst kind… a hypocritical one.
I fear that the situation can only get worse. When this legislation is put into law in the coming weeks/days, it will be only a matter of time before Canada and the USA play copycat.
The days of safety deposit box security appear to be over!
PS – A perfect storm seems to be brewing off of the eastern seaboard. At this point, the weather forecasters do not know where it will make landfall. I pray that you and your loved ones – human and animal – will be kept safe, secure, and dry!!

Dear Mike,
The only safe place is under a concrete slab with two 250 pound propane tanks on top that you built yourself, at night, not visible from any road. Safety deposit boxes remain quite safe in general from theft. Insurance can be purchased on the contents of a safety deposit box.
Privacy is not possible anywhere in the Western world except under concrete. Did I ever suggest a safety deposit box is private? Since I started this, I have warned against seeking privacy in any institution, business or depository.
In a business when push comes to government shove, you will certainly get the shaft. Gold business people will scream names like bloody murder when they are threatened by the men in black suits.
My home and office is over 1000 feet above sea level. I might have waterfront island property, but Sandy’s surge will not make it here.
At one point in my life I owned a dealership in bullion coins. A light blue box came in for sale one day. My curiosity made me ask where they had been stored. The answer was in the water tank of her toilet where she used blue cleaning agents. She got full price. Under the junk the gold was fine.
Regards,
Jim

Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.
