CSL, in 1968 the south went either republican or third party for Wallace/LeMay. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.upa.pdx.edu/IMS/currentprojects/TAHv3/Content/Maps/1968_Presidential_Election_Map.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.upa.pdx.edu/IMS/currentprojects/TAHv3/Vietnam.html&h=1126&w=2100&sz=258&tbnid=MBMalkcbgqbuOM:&tbnh=64&tbnw=120&prev=/search%3Fq%3D1968%2Bpresidential%2Belection%2Bresults%2Bmap%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=1968+presidential+election+results+map&usg=__6IuELVyiY5JZlljC9J0-mCvRIsQ=&docid=jMALdSDkMweVVM&sa=X&ei=5leNUI7zLYjF0QGJg4GgAg&ved=0CCsQ9QEwAg&dur=23538

Fair enough CSL. I'm no expert either but I suggest your total vote statistics fail to portray the regional representation. Remember the "south" was democratic then - solidly so. Southern democrats that voted for civil rights were soon voted out and blue ran red from then on.
