I want to emphasize, the epidemic is often cast as a collapse of morality ... indeed at least the first of your links IMO did just such.
I find such notions repulsive.
We have evolved to harvest and store carbon energy, some more efficiently than others.
I attack specifically this (from your link):
poor eating habits
overeating or binging
lack of exercise (i.e., couch potato kids)
Who am I? I am dig space. I do, no kidding, suck fat off turkeys feet and nothing but pure fat ox tail stuff.
Today. Today I measured 5-9.5, 148 pounds. I could "poor eating habits" I could "binge" and I could "lack exercise" --- cause I have done these things ... and I got my ass all the way up to ....eeeeks: 168.
I, Dig Space, in the most absolute terms available, require folks to stop blaming fat people for being fat.
6 million years selected for them to be able to pack fat way in ways we cannot imagine.
But
"poor habits"
"binge behavior"
fugg me.
Their bodies are doing what 6 million years said for them to do.
So cut the meanness.
Work together.
We, humans, in many areas have unlimited supply of food, crazy food, tasty food ... and for 6 million years that was never the case.
tkc, I am not saying you were being uncivil in this, I am likely just venting on the way i have seen some good people treated for their "poor habits" fugg that. They just really have a metabolisms and recovery rates that kicks the wholly crap out of mine ... BLAME DARWIN.
Seriously, I have lived with people, and they were not sneaking out jamming their faces with crap ... I made the food (all, and I mean all, know DS is a friggen great cook). They drank diet soda, had lite beer (and only one or two, and while having a decent serving at the table ... really really really nothing different than I.)
We shit on these folks and I do not like it.
Again. BLAME DARWIN.
And after blaming darwin, work together.
Help but do not blame, treat but do not shame.
