Hi Alea....

Actually the holographic universe idea goes back
over 10,000 years and is found in ancient Indian
texts....Susskind's hypothesis is that the
maximum information that can be held in any
volume of space is dependent on the sum of the 2D
surface area, and that is holographic by nature....
A hologram is a 3D representation of 2D information.

You may well believe that human civilisation is
at its peak in terms of scientific knowledge,i
believe we are just uncovering what the ancients
knew over 10,000 years back.....civilisation travels
in cycles of knowledge that is lost and then
re-discovered.

hi doma,

i believe it was actually the other way around. the holographic universe idea is derived from scientific hypothesis. i've linked to the holographic principle on a few occasions. here it is again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_principle

"The holographic principle is a property of quantum gravity and string theories which states that the description of a volume of space can be thought of as encoded on a boundary to the region—preferably a light-like boundary like a gravitational horizon. First proposed by Gerard 't Hooft, it was given a precise string-theory interpretation by Leonard Susskind[1] who combined his ideas with previous ones of 't Hooft and Charles Thorn.[1][2] As pointed out by Raphael Bousso,[3] Thorn observed in 1978 that string theory admits a lower dimensional description in which gravity emerges from it in what would now be called a holographic way."
