Fundraising Numbers Show Obama Raising More From Military Than Romney

President Obama is raising significantly more money from military groups than Mitt Romney, according to numbers released by OpenSecrets. Romney has raised more money than the president from six of eleven branches of the military, but overall Obama has raised nearly twice as much as his Republican rival.
OpenSecrets makes note of how much former Republican candidate Ron Paul was supported by the military when he was running in the GOP primary earlier this year, but comparing the money given to the two party nominees, Obama comes out way ahead of Romney.
Obama has raised a total of over $530 thousand from military donors in the 2012 election cycle, while Romney has raised almost $290 thousand. In comparison, when Paul was still running for the presidency, he amassed a total of roughly $400 thousand in his primary campaign. Here are some other highlights from the fundraising numbers:
*Obama’s biggest base of military support comes from the Department of Defense, raising $176 thousand dollars from that branch compared to Romney’s $71 thousand.
*In the month of August alone, Obama raised $140 thousand to Romney’s $90 thousand.
*Paul raised more money in his primary campaign from the National Guard, the Air Force, the Coast Guard, the Marine Corps, and the Navy than either Obama or Romney have in the entire 2012 race.
