Hi alea,

We disagree.

It baffles me how someone as smart as you can't see that someone as dumb as me is always right.

My view is only the Author of human life has the authority to begin or end that life. It is our moral human obligation to defend all human lives. Though many religions hold similar views I do not see it as a religious decision, it is a moral decision.

To compel another human being to end a life they consider sacred is...reprehensible. (If I could find a stronger word, or spell it, I would use it.)

The only exception might be when the life of the mother is clearly at risk.

Having said that, the protection of all human life is a legitimate role the government, but it is a decision best left to the each individual sovereign state, not a decision for the federal government.

Some human beings will discriminate against others for arbitrary reasons. They ought to be allowed that choice, but that is also an argument for government being as small as is possible.

Back to quiet mode.

P S. I know it is not a popular view around here and there is no point in a discussion either but it is looking more and more to me like Romney-Ryan in a landslide when the only poll that matters is taken.

what makes you think that a catholic bishop is more moral than a woman seeking an abortion: a choice she is permitted to make for herself in law; it is not a choice that a bishop makes for her. indeed, it is a dilemma he will never even face.

if the catholics wish to get into healthcare, that's fine. but they shouldn't get to impose their idea of right and wrong upon their patients. as a professed libertarian, i am astonished you would think otherwise.

what you are describing is the value system that permitted racism over the use of drinking fountains. if the person providing the fountain thinks black lips contaminate the fountain, he has a right to stop that person using it.

but the law protects and defends the rights of of blacks and the rights of women in circumstances in which some group is prejudiced against them. as it should.

i care not a jot for a mitre and sceptre. you do healthcare, you provide the services the law says you must. if you do not wish to, try a different business. like conducting religious services.
