Hi Cactus Flower,

Here's another problem that I find absurd.
How can you work at a pharmacy & refuse to fill precriptions, based on your religious beliefs?
Yet, a court has ruled that's legal.

What if a Jewish waiter refused to serve a BLT, based on his religious beliefs?

IMO, if you are not willing to do the job, find another one.

hi csl,

and by the way, i wholly respect your choice to oppose abortion. i see that as a personal choice with which i have some sympathy. you can choose to believe life is sacred from conception. i have no beef with that. perfectly reasonable choice. not outside the scope of the law.

but i don't believe in you imposing your choice on women generally. the law protects their right to choose. i think that right should be preserved against the demands of catholic bishops.

ideas of morality conflict. contrary to popular belief, the law is not necessarily coherent with one group's morality and certainty. it makes choices between conflicting ideas. the idea of protecting personal choices comes into dispute with the morality of life. The law does not choose the morality of life. It selects the primacy of personal choice.

so contrary to your view of the law, sometimes it is going to be in conflict with some people's idea of morality. so the notion that law is an engine of morality is something i would dispute. indeed, i would suggest it is often in opposition to it.
