exactly. and it's actually the simple litmus test i use to figure if someone can participate here. i don't see it as my job to censor posts (a very rare thing) or to govern what folks wish to talk about. just to remove posters who won't submit to a culture of sincere, on-topic (ie non-poster-or-moderator-centric) discussion. this culture is the thing which i value and seek to protect.

someone comes here and harms this value - out they go.

for all the justifications one hears from the folks who have been jettisoned, i have never banned anyone for another reason. and i have never missed anyone i have banned.

for some the distinction between message and messenger is all too difficult to make. It is unfortunate, but it is just the case.

There are ideas or messages I might criticize, and some might say that is crazy and say why, others might say instead that I am awful and un-american.

To some there is an obvious distinction between disputing my ideas, as opposed to saying I can't handle other views (which is making it about me, the messenger).

To me there is nothing subtle about the distinction, to some others the distinction is invisible.

Bummer.
