It was a play to his base, not to balance the budget.

The proposed legislation overlooks the critical value that PBS’ nearly 360 member stations provide to major cities and small towns." $300+M in taxpayer money for PBS is a steal! All the arts and preparing preschoolers for education. What a frigging joke. Yes NPR and PBS lean leaf and the "right" hates them but to cloak cutting it's federal funding as a budget saver is just plan dishonest. Unquestionably it would cost much much more in local school taxes the long run. I hope someone takes Romney on about this bloviation.
