Monsanto loss widens, shares fall in premarket

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Monsanto Co. /quotes/zigman/267799/quotes/nls/mon MON -1.98% fell 3% in premarket trades after the corn and soybean seed company said its fourth-quarter loss widened to $229 million, or 44 cents a share, from a loss of $112 million, or 22 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Monsanto's adjusted loss in the latest quarter totaled 42 cents a share. The company's sales fell to $2.11 billion from $2.25 billion.
