it may be they made losses during the crisis. but also i didn't select them at random. i believe they, like pretty much all these large companies, push as many of their profits offshore as they can do, legitimately.
but i don't think they are in any way unique. they all do it. it is normal business practice to reduce tax exposure. tax avoidance rather than evasion.
so the point is - when romney says that if there was tax on dividends there would be double taxation, this is mostly nonsense. Most large corporations shelter tax.
So ... tax dividends instead. I'd give up on ct. people are probably easier targets.
