yes all of these payroll type deductions are highly regressive. Some deduct health care cause they have a big employer (and FSA, HSAs etc) and others get taxed on the money they make, period.

There is no rational basis for any of this health care stuff to be deductible, again, it is asking those who do not get such benefits to subsidize those who do.

The uninsured subsidize the insured, renters subsidize homebuyers, non-parents subsidize parents, workers subsidize owners/investors.

Messed up. Regressive.

Dig re: income tax deductions. I'd like to see parity applied to employer paid health insurance. For example require any amount paid over simple catastrophic plan be considered income. Medicare deducts it's payment from SS checks but it is considered as income for tax purposes. It's unfair that some companies cover their employees w/ blue chip plans w/ no employee costs while others only provide the barest of coverage and claw back a part of that. Taxing the difference would help level the playing field while growing federal revenue.
