HI.
I discovered my superclocked GTX 460 decided to go into 2D clock mode after I left it yesterday afternoon.
I have been messing with it most of the morning.
I downloaded the latest NVIDIA whql driver and did a clean install.
No help.
I had set the voltage on the GPU FROM STOCK .975 up TO 1.025V AND THEN SET THE SHADERS FROM STANDARD 1525 UP TO 1680.
iT SHOWS ON pRECISION tUNE IT'S RUNNING 99 PERCENT BUT IT DOES NOT GET ABOVE MID 50 DEGREEs.
cHECKING WITH FAH SPY THE POINTS ARE ABOUT HALF.
lOOKING AT THE log FILE THE TIME PER FRAME IS OVER 5 MINUTES.
not good.
So I googled problem solving for 2D clocking on a 460 gtx. I read three articles.
TWO were noteworthy.
1. 2D clocking is a result of over-clocking so the GPU goes to 2D clocking mode in order to protect itself.
2. Use ASUS Tweaker which has a feature that allows you to turn off 2D clocking period.
I tried the first method a couple minutes ago. I backed off the voltage to stock .975 volts.
I then increased the shaders up to 1580 from 1520.
It is now running at 75 degrees C which means it is running in 3D mode. FAH SPY confirms this.
Now we will see if it lasts.
I downloaded the ASUS TWEAKER but have not yet installed it.
That's next.
This may be helpful for Mark and anyone else having 2D clocking issues.
Hang in there guys!
