A fly on the wall!

When we saw the secret tape of Mitt Romney down in Florida this week, we felt like the proverbial fly on the wall, that secret desire to be able to know what is going on in a place among people that you just don’t get to find out about. It was like we had been allowed in on some great secret.

All too often, these fly on the wall experiences involve things , people and events that influence and affect our world in ways that we do not like. Or, our world is affected and changed by what happens from these meetings and events and we only know the results that we see coming from what has gone on. It is rare to actually get a link from cause to event and that is what happened down in Florida back in May that the strange sequence of events involving a relative of a former president of the United States acquired for us to see here in the waning days of September in a heated presidential campaign.

So often, we see horrific things happen to us and our world and simply look in shock and wonder why! The fly on the wall is not available to us and we try to fill in the gaps with incomplete information and postulations that try to restore some sense of order to our world. We remember Jim Jones down in Jonestown in South America back in the 1970’s and we try to piece together what would have led that many so impressionable young people to follow a person like this to the life that they led so far from a homeland that they seemingly had no ties to in the end and to drink that concocted Guiana cool aid and fulfill some sort of perverted promise that led them to end their lives. Even if we had been a fly on the wall there, could that presence have done anything more than informed us of what had happened? Would it have given us any way to change the future and prevent something like that from happening again? Cults live and thrive in a state of isolation, both physically and intellectually, where a strange set of ideas can take hold that causes those involved to veer off course and follow a path that usually leads to no where.

When we look at the United States today, segments of it remind us of other nations and the paths that they have followed that have led to death and destruction, often of a parallel not previously seen before. We are always reminded of Germany after the first world war and the set of circumstances that brought a person such as Adolf Hitler to power. Hitler began with a small group of followers and was generally regarded with distain across the wider Germany. In fact, for a long period of time, he was almost unknown to the average German citizen. But the results of the actions taken by the allies after the close of a war that Germany did not lose on the field of battle laid the groundwork for a civilized and well educated state like Germany to end up in Hitler’s fateful hands. And, it is very interesting to note that a small group in the United States senate comprised of very conservative and isolationistic Republicans sealed the fate of the world and of Germany by refusing to ratify the League of Nations treaty that a man with a positive world view--Woodrow Wilson--had worked so tirelessly at the expense of his own health to promote. Are we seeing that same sort of thing right now with people that some call neocons in the house and the senate of the United States working to block all sorts of things that might be good for the country as a whole and the world that so often depends on its leadership? The neocon denial of climate change and their subsequent opposition to climate legislation comes readily to mind. Wouldn’t it be interesting and informative to be the fly on the wall at their meetings? But, in reality, we really know pretty much what goes on in those meetings. They talk and agree and reinforce each other about a fixed set of ideological markers that drives them beyond all other things. They speak of the paradigms of small government, low taxes, ever increasing military spending and the thing that drives them most of all--little or no regulation. We know very little about what Jim Jones set in place in Guiana, but, we have had similar neocon ideas driven down into our very souls by these also intellectually isolated people.

When Adolf Hitler came to power, it was with the idea of restoring Germany to its rightful place in the world. The neocons of this modern age are in power such as it is on the idea of restoring a race of people to their rightful place in the nation. White people! The neocons want to turn back the clock to a time when they were in power and no one challenged an authority that was put in place by their defeat of Adolf Hitler at the end of world war two and further solidified by their defeat of the Soviet Union supposedly led by their aging leader and hero Ronald Wilson Reagan. It is now over twenty years since the Soviet union fell and this disenfranchised white race again feels their power slipping away to a coalition of blacks and Latinos and the forty seven percent that their new leader of the moment--Mitt Romney--has defined for them in this secret speech that they broke bread over and nodded in agreement with down in Florida in May.

It as been stated by at least one commentator that Mitt Romney was merely doing what he needed to do to seal the deal on contributions at that meeting down in Florida. Hitler may not have believed much of what he said to the Germans but he instinctively knew that it would take him to the place that he and his small cult of followers wanted to go. Romney may or may not have believed either but he said what he needed to say to a waiting audience eager to want to believe and to aid his cause. We have stated, as have others, that Mitt Romney is actually an amoral person bereft of any sort of principles or guiding values at all. He is simply a businessman ready to close the deal by saying and doing whatever needs to be said or done. It is his understanding of his audience that drives him to do what he does. The business community has always been somewhat isolated at the top from the rest of the world and, we think, is, in many cases merely driven by the desire to make more and more money. When one drives down the toll ways of any major corporate city in America and sees a limousine go by, one is looking at a world apart from them that has little to nothing in common with them.

How many have wanted to be the fly on the wall at a corporate directors meeting in which some corporation does something that is later proven to be unwise and particularly stupid? How could they do that, we ask! But they did and they continue to do so every day of the year somewhere. How could Samsung copy Apple’s I phone design and expect not to be caught at it? But, they did! How could the Ford Motor company have come up with something like the Edsel and name it after the corporate president, but, they did!

Bad decisions are made with incomplete data and faulty thinking all the time and horrific results come from the isolation from reality that so often drives all of it. At its best, these decisions are merely embarrassing and cause the rest of us to wish that we could have been the fly to see the reasoning that came up with them. At its worst, these decisions adversely affect all of our lives and may even be fatal to many! A good example of this are all of the attorney advertising on television these days informing us of recalls by the Food and “Drug administration of drugs and pharmaceuticals that have maimed and even killed those unfortunate enough to have taken them.

It is perhaps very fortune that this tape of Mitt Romney down in Florida came to light when it did. For once, we got to be the fly and we got information that will enable some of us to make a very important decision this November. And, perhaps even more important, a group of people got the chance to take a look at themselves in an unguarded moment in a way that they had never seen themselves before. This may have been an isolation breaker of monumental proportions. And, if it was, it might begin to break up a cult in the making that has existed for far, far too long already. Those deep in the throes of this neocon mess will never really pull away from it but we may be able to form a majority that will cast them back into the shadows for the foreseeable future. If this doesn’t get done, they will take us all down a road past a point of no return to a place of destruction that few of us can even imagine at this time. It is hard with the passage of history to try to think of the horrors that Adolf Hitler did. But he did do them and they could very well happen in some form or another again. Just the neocon opinions on the climate change confronting this nation and this world could lead us to an Armageddon. The neocons do not believe in any of it at all!

Mitt Romney speaks of being the president of 100 percent of all the people and in practically the same breath talks about “those people” as he divides us in preparation for the destruction that might surely come. Hitler used to, in his crude way, say many of the same things as he isolated the Jews and led a very well educated people in thoughts like Aryanism, a pure race of blond white people who would dominate the world. And Romney has around him many of those who followed George W Bush in their quest for “a new American century.” These were some of the same people who walked into the oval office and said that “America is an empire now!” They didn’t get it done back in the second Bush years but they have found a new voice in the overly ambitious Mitt Romney and they will, if not stopped, once again carry out their plans. The fact that Romney has so many of them at his side in this campaign tells us so much of what we need to know about him. We get no chance to send the fly in to hear what they have in mind, however, from all past evidence it cannot be anything good. The world they are trying to restore does not include blacks or Hispanics in any large measure and people who are weak or different from them will get no help from them. It is a world of mid twentieth century life when they were in charge and no one questioned that authority. A time when the world lay at their feet. And believe us, they have not forgotten and deeply desire those times again and will do whatever it takes to make that happen!

IOVHO,

Regards,

Joe
