Flip thinks a VP candidate's taxes should be vetted for 10 years. Flip's father thought a Presidential candidate should be subject to the same examination, and most of us think Flip is not regally above it either. Also, some of us think we're entitled to proof that a President is not a felon. Others think that integrity doesn't matter at all but that school transcripts are essential. The latter people are too stupid to breathe.
When Switzerland opened its previously secret banking records to the IRS a lot of people were on the spot, as they'd been using Swiss secrecy provisions to illegally hide funds; the IRS bailed them out with a one-time amnesty if they'd pay in 2009 the taxes they'd feloniously evaded previously. We know that Flip had a Swiss account that he closed after the laws changed.
We know that he showed McCain 20 or so returns up to 2007, and McCain vouches for them , so there's no reason Flip would want to hide them now unless he wasn't paying. What no one is allowed to know if the content of the 2009 returns. Those would be the ones where some felons took amnesty and paid up.
This tax thing is hurting Flip politically, even with many Republican leaders and pundits. He's not accepting that damage because he wants political damage, he's accepting it because releasing the returns would kill him dead as a rock. Either he didn't pay prior to or including 2009, or he took amnesty from a tax felony. Our resident dummies may not think either of those is important, but clearly Flip does; it scares him. He's right for once.
