People have talked about Apple splitting to get into the Dow. Seems the opposite is more likely:
"...Dow Jones Industrial Average is considering changes to make it more relevant... The changes are being considered by Dow owner Stndard & Poor’s because the index is supposed to be a measure of U.S. industrial titans but doesn’t include Apple Inc, Google Inc. or Berkshire Hathaway Inc."

If Apple, Berkshire, and Google had been added to the Dow a year ago it would have performed much better than it has. It would also end the rather old fashioned concept of an index tied to share price.
