hi tkc,

we both want the same thing. a soft right republican alternative to the democratic party. one that a pragmatic person does not need to fear. either internally, or from a foreign policy perspective.

by a puritan, i mean an ideological candidate of the far right. so i was hoping the far right would provide the candidate this time. and lose.

mitt may be talking far right rhetoric these days, but he isn't seen by the far right as one of them.

i suspect mitt will fail, and that the far right will still have a lock on the party in 2016.

so 2012 won't be the cure for the madness i wish it was.

but you provide a different reason for the gop to move to the middle. we have the same idea in mind. end of randian ideology. end of neoconservative doctrine. a bit of burkean conservatism would be nice.

Disagree CF, a more moderate nominee might have won giving the far right control of the House and the Senate, with a majority Court. The far right would govern eliminating, greatly reducing or "privatizing" most progressive programs. It would be a disaster - riots in the streets. No, I'm happy w/ mittens. Furthermore, w/ changing demographics the GOP will have to move towards the center in time for 2016 to have a chance. Mitt's been a savior.
