A cliff in the road!
On the early morning talk shows this morning, particularly CNN’s, Bay Buchanan, the sister of former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan and current supposed heavyweight Republican spin master tried to characterize Mitt Romney’s remarks revealed by that erstwhile left leaning publication Mother Jones, as being merely a “bump in the road!” Other panelists on the CNN show stated that they had been in touch with other Republican operatives and they were simply tired of being on the defensive and not being able to stay on message from this barrage of Romney gaffes over the last few weeks since the conventions have ended. For those who do not know and who apparently live in caves with no cable vision or even have access to smoke signals, Mother Jones released last night one of the most damning and damaging recorded interviews in political and presidential campaign history. In this lengthy interview secretly taped by one of the millionaires or their invited guests to this gathering of the wealthy faithful down in Boca Raton, Florida, back in May after the nomination had been decided in Romney’s favor, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee stated that if he had been born Latino he might have a better chance in this race. He also stated that forty seven (47) percent of the United States voting population were, in effect, a bunch of losers who would support Barack Obama because they paid no taxes or were drawing government benefits of some sort or another. We are reminded of the comments that Romney made in Michigan a while back where he stated that he was born in Michigan and that no one had ever asked to see his birth certificate. Winners and losers drawn and defined!
It is interesting to think that one can write off forty seven percent of the American population and deeply embarrass and insult them and think that one has any chance of winning the election. Among that forty seven percent are those who paid taxes for much of their life and now enjoy not paying because they are drawing social security benefits off of what they had paid in. There are those who are on Social Security disability because they had the misfortune of becoming ill and are not able to gainfully seek or hold a job after paying into the system for a lifetime. It is not all that easy to get on social security disability and so many who worked with their disabilities for so many years have now fled to it after their jobs disappeared in the great George W. Bush inspired and Republican sponsored recession. We are reminded that one definition of a recession versus a depression is what someone said once when they stated that it is a recession when your neighbor loses his job and a depression when you lose yours. Then there are those who are going to school to learn how to earn a productive living or who are in job retraining programs to learn how to do the same thing. Many years ago we saw the track of the new economy when we heard the statement made that the average worker might have to retrain to hold as many as six to ten different jobs in a working lifetime at the end of an economy where the average worker might be employed by the same employer for up to thirty five to forty years and come away from that experience with a good pension and guaranteed health benefits that would enable them to avoid not paying any taxes and to continue to contribute to the national economy and its tax base. It is people like Mitt Romney and his wealthy friends in places like Boca Raton that have taken those jobs and those benefits away from so many caught in mid stream who had counted on them and then have seen them slip away like sands through the hourglass with not enough time to be able to work long enough to recover from what has happened to them. Just like the old who are relying on what little social security benefits they get because they never made enough to be able to save or invest enough to afford to continue to live after they could no longer work. In this dynamic and changing nation and its economy in which we live, thrive, or merely get by through no fault of our own, comes one Mitt Romney who has done well for himself. He says to us that he was born with no silver spoon except the silver spoon of being born in America. The fact that he got a legacy ride to Harvard had little or nothing to do with that lack of a “spoon.”
To Mitt Romney America is the land of opportunity instead of what so many have seen, the land of opportunity destroyed or lost by the efforts of people like him. If we have any doubt as to what he was like in the private sector at Bain Capital, the statements he made in Boca Raton in May that have just been revealed should put any of that to rest. When you have a bad opinion of nearly half of your fellow citizens, there is nothing to stop you from doing whatever you can to enrich yourself and drive them further down the tubes. The simple thought that the forty seven percent are not taking advantage of the new opportunities or the new Romney class created realities is all the justification that people like Mitt Romney need to go forward with whatever their minds come out with as the next way to create more wealth for themselves. So many who would vote for Romney are in this forty seven percent and do not believe in Darwinism when people like Romney practice some of the most cruel forms of it ever seen as they smile and get people to vote against their own interests in election after election. These people are going to have to stick their heads completely in the sand or have such a great hate for Barack Obama that they are completely blinded to this statement that Romney has made. A recent poll states that forty eight percent of Romney supporters vote because they like him while forty seven percent vote for him because they hate Obama!
We remember what John F. Kennedy said about Barry Goldwater back in 1963 when he was in a discussion about the 1964 presidential elections. While aids were worried about Goldwater as an opponent, Kennedy merely grinned back at them and said simply “He’s mine!”
Well, Mr. Obama, Mitt Romney is yours and there are seven weeks to the day until November sixth, 2012! Stay safe!
IOVHO,
Regards,
Joe
To say that "God exists" is the greatest understatement ever made across space and time.
