In Fairfax and Loudoun counties, the houses are almost all really nice. It's been one of the real shocks to me, coming from Sacramento... which is a dump, on average, by comparison.

Housing prices shot up with the bubble, but never really fell thanks to the vast sums the Federal government has pumped into surrounding businesses.

IMO, anyone who bought a house around here in, say, 1997 and held both it and a job with medical insurance since then, would need to have screwed up BIG TIME in order to not be a millionaire today.

That said, we live in a country with an incredible number of irresponsible people. I would bet that fewer than half of the long-term residents of these two wealthy counties are, in fact, millionaires.

They have no excuse.
