President Barack Obama said Wednesday that the United States government "condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack" that killed four Americans in Libya.
He pledged to bring those responsible to justice, but said the United States' relationship with Libya had not been threatened.
"As Americans, let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because there are people that are wiling to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases lay down their lives for it," Obama said at the White House. "No acts of terror will shake the resolve of this great nation."
Obama also praised killed ambassador Christopher Stevens as a "role model to all who worked with him and to the young diplomats who aspire to walk in his footsteps."
